Totally Tigers
Since trading Tarik Skubal, the Detroit Tigers have gone 4-1 (through Thursday’s games). They added 8, 11, 8 and 11 runs in each of those games.
In 2 games, Framber Valdez pitched 7 innings in each, giving up only 2 runs combined. Keider Montero had a 2-hit shutout in 6 innings. Troy Melton threw a 3-hit shutout in 7 innings.
In comparison, Tarik Skubal threw fewer innings than the other starters and gave up more runs. To his credit, strikeouts were his forte.
Casey Mize threw significantly fewer innings and gave up 8 ERs in his last 4 games with the team.
Many have observed that since the trade deadline, the Tigers have picked up their performance. At the time of the Skubal trade, Detroit was sitting in 4th place, 6.5 games back.
Today, they are now 4 games under, in 3rd place, 3.5 games back and just 2 games out of a wild card slot.
The rotation is throwing better and offense has taken off.
Is this just a coincidence?
Or has the energy and attention changed?
With the conclusion of all the trade drama, has this given the team a chance to refocus?
Has the removal of a star player allowed the rest of the team to find their own spotlights? Has it allowed many of them to step up and given them permission to shine?
Has a more equal footing for the rest of the roster created greater power and more cohesiveness when they play?
Today’s blog addresses this question and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

Ready?
How do you explain the Tigers' sudden surge in performance?
1. Just a coincidence.
2. The roster has become more equal and cohesive.
3. The trade drama is over and the team is re-focused.
