1911: At Bennett Park: The Tigers overcome a 12-run deficit, rallying to beat the Chicago White Sox, 16-15, after trailing, 13-1, in the fifth inning. Ty Cobb has 5 hits, including game-tying RBI infield single.

1922: Tigers outfielder Harry Heilmann collects his 10th consecutive hit in a game against the Boston Red Sox at Navin Field in Detroit. Heilmann goes 4-for-4 for the second straight night as the Tigers defeat the Sox, 8-1. The 10 straight hits are one shy of Tris Speaker's major league record. Walt Dropo sets the record for consecutive hits with 12 after a trade to the Tigers in 1952.
1938: Babe Ruth signs a contract to coach with the Brooklyn Dodgers. "The Babe" dons a Dodger uniform the next day, entertains observers with a batting demonstration, and works the third-base coaching box.
1939: Hall of Famer Lou Brock was born this day in El Dorado, AR.
1953: At Fenway Park, Dick Gernert's home run highlights a 17-run, 14-hit 7th inning as the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 23 - 3. In the big inning, Gene Stephens has three hits, Sammy White scores three runs and Tom Umphlett also reaches base three times.
1958: Norm Cash makes his major league debut, as a pinch runner for the White Sox.
At the start of the 1960 season 'Stormin Norman' is traded to the Tigers from the indians for Steve Demeter and will hit 373 home runs and collect over 1,000 rbi in his 15 seasons with Detroit.
1972: Colorful Oakland Athletics owner Charlie Finley holds baseball's first ever "Mustache Day." Finley agreed to pay $300 to each of his players for growing mustaches by Father's Day. Reggie Jackson had started the trend by reporting to spring training with a mustache, to became the first major leaguer to do so since Frenchy Bordagaray in 1936.
1975: Fred Lynn collects 10 runs batted in with three home runs, a triple and a single in a 15 - 1 win by the Boston Red Sox over the Detroit Tigers. Lynn's 16 total bases tie an American League record. Lynn will go on to win the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the American League.
1976: Commissioner Bowie Kuhn voids the sales of Oakland Athletics stars Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers and Joe Rudi. Kuhn orders the players to return to Oakland, but spiteful curmudgeon and tightwad Athletics owner Charlie Finley will not allow manager Chuck Tanner to use any of them in a game until June 27th.
1986: Don Sutton of the California Angels pitches a three-hitter for his 300th career victory as the Angels beat the Texas Rangers, 5 - 1. The 41-year-old right-hander becomes the 19th pitcher to win 300 games.
1987: The Detroit Tigers purchased Ron Meridith from the Texas Rangers.
1990: The Detroit Tigers traded Tracy Jones to the Seattle Mariners for Darnell Coles.
1990: The Toronto Blue Jays selected Ken Williams off waivers from the Detroit Tigers.
1993: Cecil Fielder hits two home runs at Tiger Stadium in loss to the brewers.
1994: The Detroit Tigers signed Francisco Cordero as an amateur free agent.
1995: At Tiger Stadium: Detroit beats Baltimore 10-8, giving Sparky Anderson the 2,158th managerial win of his career, placing him third behind Connie Mack and John McGraw.
1996: The San Diego Padres traded Russ Spear (minors), Brad Ausmus and Andujar Cedeno to the Detroit Tigers for John Flaherty and Chris Gomez.
2006: The Tigers hit a franchise record eight home runs in their 12-3 rout of the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Brandon Inge and Chris Shelton each hit two, and Curtis Granderson, Carlos Guillen, Marcus Thames, and Vance Wilson each hit one. The win keeps Detroit 1 games ahead in the American League Central. Kenny Rogers hits a double, and scatters four hits over 8 innings for his 200th career win.
2010: The Tigers extend their win streak to 7 games with a 7 - 5 win over the Diamondbacks. Brandon Inge delivers the key hit with an RBI triple in the 8th.
2011: The Detroit Tigers signed Jeff Salazar as a free agent.
2014: Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers throws the second no-hitter of the year, shutting out the Colorado Rockies, 8 - 0. He strikes out 15 without giving up a walk, the only baserunner coming on a two-base error by SS Hanley Ramirez in the 8th.
2022: The Detroit Tigers released Jacob Barnes.
2022: The Detroit Tigers selected Ali Sanchez off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
2023: For the first time in 17 years, the
Red Sox sweep a doubleheader against their bitter rivals, the
Yankees, defeating them, 6 - 2, in the afternoon game and 4 - 1 in the nationally-televised

Fenway Park.
