Detroit Tigers Team Notes Over 4 Million Views!!!! Thankyou!

Matt Vierling fighting to regain his rhythm and role with Tigers.
Where have you gone, Matty V?
Matt Vierling, such an integral part of the Tigers’ run in 2024 and, by his absence, a big part of the team’s slide last September, suddenly finds himself without a regular role.
“Just keep on going,” said Vierling, who has started five of the 13 games in June. “Just having the perspective of, like, it’s been a month or two but it’s not the whole season. I’ve been down and out before — and I wouldn’t say this is down and out. I feel I’ve been a lot better than the numbers show.”

Justin Verlander uncertain in return: No reason to 'delay any further'.
Right-hander Justin Verlander hasn't pitched for the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park since Aug. 20, 2017.
It has been nearly nine years.
The 3,227-day drought will end when Verlander throws his first pitch Sunday, June 21, against the Chicago White Sox in the finale of a three-game series at Comerica Park, making his return from an 81-day stay on the injured list this season.

Tigers fall to Astros in finale, lose another road series.
The Tigers lost another road series on Wednesday, dropping the rubber match against the Houston Astros, 4-2, at Daikin Park.
They have won just two of 13 road series this season and now come home Friday 14 games under .500. Meaning, despite a brief flurry of wins at the start of June, they find themselves farther out of contention than they were in the woebegone days of May.

Detroit Tigers held to 3 hits in loss to Astros as Casey Mize returns.
The Detroit Tigers mustered three hits.
If not for Kerry Carpenter hitting a home run in the seventh inning and Kevin McGonigle doing the same in the ninth inning, the Tigers would've been shut out in a 4-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday, June 17, in the finale of the three-game series at Daikin Park.
Right-hander Peter Lambert led the way for the Astros in an 88-pitch masterpiece, allowing one run on two hits, no walks and one hit-by-pitch with five strikeouts across seven innings.

June 18 in Tigers and mlb history:

1911: At Bennett Park: The Tigers overcome a 12-run deficit, rallying to beat the Chicago White Sox, 16-15, after trailing, 13-1, in the fifth inning. Ty Cobb has 5 hits, including game-tying RBI infield single.

1922: Tigers outfielder Harry Heilmann collects his 10th consecutive hit in a game against the Boston Red Sox at Navin Field in Detroit. Heilmann goes 4-for-4 for the second straight night as the Tigers defeat the Sox, 8-1. The 10 straight hits are one shy of Tris Speaker's major league record. Walt Dropo sets the record for consecutive hits with 12 after a trade to the Tigers in 1952.

1938: Babe Ruth signs a contract to coach with the Brooklyn Dodgers. "The Babe" dons a Dodger uniform the next day, entertains observers with a batting demonstration, and works the third-base coaching box.

1939: Hall of Famer Lou Brock was born this day in El Dorado, AR.

1953: At Fenway Park, Dick Gernert's home run highlights a 17-run, 14-hit 7th inning as the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers, 23 - 3. In the big inning, Gene Stephens has three hits, Sammy White scores three runs and Tom Umphlett also reaches base three times.

1972: Colorful Oakland Athletics owner Charlie Finley holds baseball's first ever "Mustache Day." Finley agreed to pay $300 to each of his players for growing mustaches by Father's Day. Reggie Jackson had started the trend by reporting to spring training with a mustache, to became the first major leaguer to do so since Frenchy Bordagaray in 1936.

1975: Fred Lynn collects 10 runs batted in with three home runs, a triple and a single in a 15 - 1 win by the Boston Red Sox over the Detroit Tigers. Lynn's 16 total bases tie an American League record. Lynn will go on to win the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards in the American League.

1976: Commissioner Bowie Kuhn voids the sales of Oakland Athletics stars Vida Blue, Rollie Fingers and Joe Rudi. Kuhn orders the players to return to Oakland, but spiteful curmudgeon and tightwad Athletics owner Charlie Finley will not allow manager Chuck Tanner to use any of them in a game until June 27th.

1986: Don Sutton of the California Angels pitches a three-hitter for his 300th career victory as the Angels beat the Texas Rangers, 5 - 1. The 41-year-old right-hander becomes the 19th pitcher to win 300 games.

1987: The Detroit Tigers purchased Ron Meridith from the Texas Rangers.

2006: The Tigers hit a franchise record eight home runs in their 12-3 rout of the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Brandon Inge and Chris Shelton each hit two, and Curtis Granderson, Carlos Guillen, Marcus Thames, and Vance Wilson each hit one. The win keeps Detroit 1 games ahead in the American League Central. Kenny Rogers hits a double, and scatters four hits over 8 innings for his 200th career win.

2010: The Tigers extend their win streak to 7 games with a 7 - 5 win over the Diamondbacks. Brandon Inge delivers the key hit with an RBI triple in the 8th.

2011: The Detroit Tigers signed Jeff Salazar as a free agent.

2014: Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers throws the second no-hitter of the year, shutting out the Colorado Rockies, 8 - 0. He strikes out 15 without giving up a walk, the only baserunner coming on a two-base error by SS Hanley Ramirez in the 8th.

2022: The Detroit Tigers released Jacob Barnes.
2022: The Detroit Tigers selected Ali Sanchez off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals.

IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE ARM.
Totally Tigers

Detroit has 48 players on the 40 man roster. Just 7 are set to be FAs.
Josue Briceño, Max Anderson, Ben Malgeri, Andrew Sears, John Peck + Brett Callahan are R5 eligible.
Even if the Tigers aren’t in it, there’s a lot riding on the rest of ‘26 to see who should be part of ‘27.

Players with value the Tigers could realistically trade elsewhere at the deadline:
Tarik Skubal
Gleyber Torres (if healthy)
Casey Mize
Jack Flaherty (if healthy)
Drew Anderson
Kyle Finnegan
Kenley Jansen
Jake Rogers
Will Vest
Spencer Torkelson
A lot of potential for a farm system overhaul with the draft also coming in under a month.
A majority of the guys listed are on expiring contracts. Only Vest and Torkelson have multiple years of control (excluding Anderson, Jansen, and Finnegan who have club options).
So the same guy who has made one trade in four years and has presided over a mediocre farm system especially outside of McGonigle is going to start another rebuild 4 years after his first failed try?

The Tigers have 1 or less hits through the first 4 innings in 18% of games this season (13 games).

The one struggling player all 30 MLB teams should replace at the trade deadline.
Every MLB team has at least one player they should be eager to replace at the trade deadline, or perhaps even sooner.

More than 1, flaherty, but I don't think they get much for these players they might want to move, other than Skubal.

Tarik Skubal issues call to arms that it's put-up or shut-up time for Tigers.
If Tarik Skubal had his way, he would be wearing the Old English D into October this season.
But so much of that, as a pending free agent, is out of his control, especially as the Tigers continue to careen near the bottom of the Central Division.
“The reality of the situation is, we need to play better baseball,” Skubal said Tuesday morning in the visitors’ clubhouse inside Daikin Park. “I’ve said that before and I’ll continue to say that. My belief in this group has never changed. But the reality is we need to play better baseball or else come the deadline, you give the front office an option to reassess where this team is.

Tigers plan to call up third-generation MLB player for debut.
Trei Cruz will be called up to make his major-league debut for the Detroit Tigers on Friday.
The news was first reported by 7News sports anchor Ari Alexander.
Cruz is expected to take the roster spot of Wenceel Pérez, who suffered a non-baseball injury in the training room in Houston earlier this week.
