Very cool. I wish my area had flag football when I was a kid.

We had it but it was organized by school so no NFL logos

We've been the Bears - Falcons - Bears - Ravens and now Lions. My first time as head coach and my little guy is a fast little RB (aka Barry for Lions purposes ...moreso than Sims)

th

did you also get the coaching gig by pissing off the previous coach?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnSccAokV3c

No, the previous coach - Rabbi Rabin - was a nice guy but not very organized or enthusiastic. Another Dad and I decided to do it this season after two seasons of our wives taunting us about doing it as we sat and watched as Dads

I'm going to have the kids working hard and competing ...with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind!!

(wife even bought me a whistle)

Victory over the Patriots 41-12 ...or 7 TDs to 2TDs with some failed PATs in there for both ..

Little Vic scampered for 3 TDs ...threw a completion on a 2pt conversion and recorded 2 TFLs in the backfield.

And yes ...of course I wore khakis

okay, but how did the post-game coach handshake go?

you didn't enthusiastically slap him on the back and head for the tunnel with him chasing you?

No. I actually told my boys to be respectful.

Today after work my son is complaining his legs are tired and said, "well I did run for over 100yds yesterday"

Which he probably did ...50yd field and he had one TD run of 45yds and some decent YAC on pass plays.

My wife and son bought me a clipboard and a whistle when I decided to coach and as a joke but sometimes I bust out the whistle around house.

Vic: Week two is the most important week of the season. Where the main adjustments and improvements are made. I'm sure that you are scouring film to see who was really contributing.

Absolutely right there, byco.

We can definitely improve a bit in terms of timing on our passing routes ..but sometimes that only comes with game experience, practice and playing together.

A coworker of mine coached his son a few years ago and had his wife videotape all the games and he actually did breakdown the tape. He's totally OCD in general and over the top.

If I asked my wife to do the same, she'd laugh in my face and come back with something along the lines of, "yeah, right!!"

Humiliation and ridicule are great teaching tools at this age. There's never a reason to withhold them.

I coached a LL football team (8-10 and tackle) in 1995 had plays called "buttsniff"(counter) "fart" (boot run/pass option) "chair"(up and out) "keeper" "sweep" and "blast". Basic I and Wing formations and no hole designations. Just "right" or "left". Backs were one yd deep to prevent big losses. We were having too much fun to take it too seriously and we went 5-4 and lost in the league championship to a coach like the guy you described. Players nicks "Pollack" "Psycho Bob" "Frog" "Barbie" and "Iron Man" ... The best part of that experience was seeing the players years later and they called me "coach." No price on that.

In all sincerity, that's awesome. I really like coaching and wanted to do it, but always had work travel as a conflict. I did coach pitch baseball with K-1st age kids but with these 3rd, almost 4th graders, you have more to work with.

Funny about the plays ...we have RABBIT (R/L) which is a basic sort of stretch run ...TREES which is two WR/TE down and outs and the Center running a 10yd curl and then GRONK ...which is a couple fake reverses and the C sneaking into the endzone.

It's actually a play MICHIGAN ran to the TE last year but I felt calling it BUTT would get too many giggles ..

Coached every game in khaki shorts and we played with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

My LIONS just completed an UNDEFEATED 6-0-1 season to WIN the CHAMPIONSHIP this afternoon!

Little Vic pulled 6 flags and scored an '80yd' TD run on the first play of the game. We tied once but beat every other team in the league by an average score of 31-9. We ran more than any other team and ran play action off of it. Every game began with 'rabbit' ..a draw running play.

One of the most fulfilling things I've done, to see the looks on these kids' faces ...some having never played football (or sports at all for one kid) before at all.

LIONS are Champions!!

Awesome! Congrats!

Finally, the Lions are Champs! Couldn't wait for it to happen in Detroit, so you did it yourself.
