I think the outcome is the same even if their qb doesn't get hurt, but the score would have been closer. The D needs lewis back badly and to greatly improve on pass coverage. They can't be giving up long passes or OSU and others will burn them over and over and over.
I believe this, also.
So here is what we have............. A sort of new defensive scheme that has seen the Spread in the 1st 2 games and the up-tempo Pistol against CU. We gave up big runs against the Spread and big passes against the Pistol. We were given good looks for the defense. They needed to see these potentially potent styles of offense. It lets them know their vulnerabilities for later dates. I was really happy with the schedule this year because I thought it was needed for the new qb and to get used to Don Browns style. I was right. Speight is slow motion and the defense is in the wrong match ups and out of place at times. This can be corrected with better timing from Speight and better coaching from Don Brown. It is very frustrating to see a 10yd cushion given and the receiver stills blows by D. Thomas into the endzone for a touch pass to the corner. Or the 10yd cushion is given every play and that same receiver keeps getting the ball. Speight throwing the ball late and into double coverage yesterday was killing me. Darboh was covered all day(by a really good corner) yesterday and he still kept trying to get it to him. He was real lucky he didnt get intercepted on a bunch of plays. His throws have to be quicker now(B10 play), with a little more zip or he will be seeing the bench as the year progresses. I still think we need a better athlete(O'Korn) at qb for the OSU game. I hope he proves me wrong.
