MIGGY is back!!!...after a 6 week stint on the DL with a Grade 3 strained calf muscle. The Tigers went 15-20 without him in the lineup.

The Tigers are 5 games behind the Angels for the last wild card spot with 4 teams ahead of us. They have won just 1 series since the all-star break (1-5-2).

The Astros are happy to be returning home. They went 2-7 on their recent road trip and are 4-17 on the road since July 4th. Conversely, they have won 14 of 16 at home in that same time span. Houston is 38-18 at home and the Tigers are 27-29 on the road. The Tigers have lost 4 of their last 6 games and 11 of their last 16 road games. Both teams had the day off on Thursday.

Simon is 6-4 with a 5.64 era in 11 road starts this season. Lefties are hitting .309 with a .906 ops. Simon has still been struggling on the mound but the Tigers have won his last 4 starts. He has given up at least 4 earned runs in 8 of his last 9 starts (8.29 era). Simon earned the win against Houston back on May 22nd when he threw 7 innings and gave up 4 hits and 2 runs (none earned).

Keuchel has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He?s pitched 85.2 innings, struck out 90 and has gone 10-0 with a 1.26 era in 12 home starts. He?s given up just 2 runs in his last 4 home starts and he has yet to give up a home run at Minute Maid Park this year. Lefties are hitting just .135 with a .167 obp.

The Astros lead mlb in home runs hit with 158. The Tigers pitching staff leads mlb in home runs given up with 130.

Current Tigers are hitting 13 for 48 (.271) with 1 double and 2 home runs against Keuchel. Kinsler is 6 for 19 with a homer, VMart is 3 for 6 with a homer, Miggy is 1 for 7 and JD is 0 for 3. The Tigers have scored 2 runs or less in 13 of their last 20 games.

The Astros are hitting 18 for 68 (.265) with 8 doubles and 1 home run against Simon. Gomez is 3 for 10 with 2 doubles, Valbuena is 3 for 16 with a homer, Altuve is 2 for 6 and Castro is 3 for 5.

Kyle Ryan was optioned back down to Toledo to make room for Miggy. According to Ausmus, there?s a good chance Miggy will be rested on Saturday and then play again on Sunday.

Ausmus is returning to Houston in time for the 10th anniversary celebration of the 2005 NL Championship team.

Tonight's weather forecast for Houston calls for partly sunny skies with temperatures touching 93 degrees around first pitch. There's no chance for rain.

Surprised they just threw him right back at 1st and didn't go the DH route for a day or two and have victor play first. I expect there to be rust for a while.

Simple Simon on fumes and dummus lets him pitch 6th inning. first batter triple.
We're going to be fine Gorzelanny in to pitch....

Tigers should have done that very same when iggy was on third and goose on first with one out and Davis up couple innings back, but naww...freakin' brad

I agree. I would have been OK with them shutting him down. Who cares at this point?

I'm sure Miggy does. His contract is full of incentives, including bonuses for where he places in the MVP voting.

Like Miggy has a chance this year. And I'm sure he needs the money.

Miggy has an outside chance to get to the magical 502 PA required to win batting title. I want to see him playing just for that..

We all would, but not at the risk of tearing something that hasn't healed properly.

Why should the players union care?if they don't want Miggy to play that's the Tigers organization decision, they pay his salary.

That is not how the Collective Bargaining Agreement works.

Tell the Yankees they could just not play A-Rod to start the season. Sure, it turned out for them, but it really wasn't a choice. They were going to pay A-Rod or not.

A little known fact...a player has to sign a consent form to be put on the disabled list. So if the Tigers don't put Miggy on the DL and they aren't going to play him, I am sure the Player's Association will get involved, because that is what unions do.

If he's heathy he's healthy. Sitting him because there is nothing to play for makes no sense.. Or we could just sit every starter.

Only Miggy knows how he feels.but he's never had a injury like this before. I'd just play it safe on a commodity like him and give him another week or so,just to be safe.

If Miggy and the team think he's healthy enough to be playing than I think he should play. And they are playing it safe. They've been putting him through physical tests the last week before he entered the line up last night. They will sit him again today. If he can play he should play. Anyone can get hurt at any time but that's not a reason to just sit on the bench a few more weeks.

Plus no athlete wants to just sit on the bench if you know you could be out there while you watch your team struggle (unless you're Derrick Rose). You want to be out there playing with them. And as much as we have given up on the season the team hasn't.
