MIGGY is back!!!...after a 6 week stint on the DL with a Grade 3 strained calf muscle. The Tigers went 15-20 without him in the lineup.
The Tigers are 5 games behind the Angels for the last wild card spot with 4 teams ahead of us. They have won just 1 series since the all-star break (1-5-2).
The Astros are happy to be returning home. They went 2-7 on their recent road trip and are 4-17 on the road since July 4th. Conversely, they have won 14 of 16 at home in that same time span. Houston is 38-18 at home and the Tigers are 27-29 on the road. The Tigers have lost 4 of their last 6 games and 11 of their last 16 road games. Both teams had the day off on Thursday.
Simon is 6-4 with a 5.64 era in 11 road starts this season. Lefties are hitting .309 with a .906 ops. Simon has still been struggling on the mound but the Tigers have won his last 4 starts. He has given up at least 4 earned runs in 8 of his last 9 starts (8.29 era). Simon earned the win against Houston back on May 22nd when he threw 7 innings and gave up 4 hits and 2 runs (none earned).
Keuchel has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season. He?s pitched 85.2 innings, struck out 90 and has gone 10-0 with a 1.26 era in 12 home starts. He?s given up just 2 runs in his last 4 home starts and he has yet to give up a home run at Minute Maid Park this year. Lefties are hitting just .135 with a .167 obp.
The Astros lead mlb in home runs hit with 158. The Tigers pitching staff leads mlb in home runs given up with 130.
Current Tigers are hitting 13 for 48 (.271) with 1 double and 2 home runs against Keuchel. Kinsler is 6 for 19 with a homer, VMart is 3 for 6 with a homer, Miggy is 1 for 7 and JD is 0 for 3. The Tigers have scored 2 runs or less in 13 of their last 20 games.
The Astros are hitting 18 for 68 (.265) with 8 doubles and 1 home run against Simon. Gomez is 3 for 10 with 2 doubles, Valbuena is 3 for 16 with a homer, Altuve is 2 for 6 and Castro is 3 for 5.
Kyle Ryan was optioned back down to Toledo to make room for Miggy. According to Ausmus, there?s a good chance Miggy will be rested on Saturday and then play again on Sunday.
Ausmus is returning to Houston in time for the 10th anniversary celebration of the 2005 NL Championship team.
Tonight's weather forecast for Houston calls for partly sunny skies with temperatures touching 93 degrees around first pitch. There's no chance for rain.
