That guy got a 6 year contract. And Campbell fixed the offense rather quickly. He realizes his mistakes and takes action. That is a good coach process.

And Glenn made so much sense as a DC. Nobody argued that at the time. Its hindsight. Could very much be injuries and talent problems more but Glenn definitely has to be smarter. The aggressive scheme they switched too, might be too aggressive and hurting the run D too much. The Dline flat out has to step up even with the 4 injuries that hit it. Safety is going to be rough without Walker. People were dismissing Walker but solid safety play at FS and lead communicator is sorely missed. Ife, Joseph and Ju Ju are going to take their lumps and hopefully improve.

Other than Rodrigo, LB is a mess as everybody saw it coming. They need to find a good one in the offseason.

AO regressed (or has a back injury). Okudah is solid but need more and he continues to get play time experience now. Hughes/Joseph and Elliot need to step up with Walker out. Jerry Jacobs maybe could take over for AO if healthy.

A true old man's take. This season's iteration has nothing to do with previous teams you or I have watched.

Is it a true old mans take when I say we never win a super bowl? Or win playoff games? We do just enough to not win.

Going to need some of these bad teams to win more. Sitting at #8 currently, pending MNF.

It is really difficult to figure out if the terrible defense is lack of talent or bad coaching/scheme. Watching the game on Sunday, it looked like both.

It's always both. Still waiting for biting of the kneecaps.

Talent. Utilizing shitty players to their full potential isn?t as big a boost as people seem to think. Coaching/scheme factors in, but talent is king and probably decides at least 95% of games.

I doubt this defense would be much better with a genius DC. 75% of this defense wouldn?t even see the field on most teams.

Only the Lions could lead the league at 35 PPG on offense and be 1-3 giving up 35.3 PPG on defense

That might be the case but those 2 TDS still aren?t on the D.

14 points/4 is worth 3.5 PPG. We would still be worse in the league even with that I think.

We might be 3-1 though without those

We would also be 3-1 or 4-0 if defense could get one or two more stops or 2-2 if Campbell went for that 4th down instead of FG against Vikings.

Kicking is another big problem with Seibert or Eberle (backup). Whereas Seattle made a 56 yarder to go up 17-9. Huge swing there as Lions would have had great field position down 14-9 instead.

Kalif Raymond fumble (backup) was big in this game. Lions were driving but that was point Seattle went up 24-9 after Seattle got ball at mid-field.

Got back in it at 24-15 (down 9 due to two missed XPs). But the pick 6 just made it that much tougher too. 31-15

31-23 back in it. Then defense gives up a long TD drive 38-23 again. Lions back in it 38-31. Seattle gets a FG drive 41-31.

41-38. Lions in it. Rashad Penny huge TD run.

48-45. Can't get onside kick. 3rd and 5, Penny runs for 7.

Glad we have ability to fight back and score almost at will but still coming up short.

They certainly should have utilized more off season assets toward the D vs. the offense. Probably should have spent the $10M that they gave DJ for a LB and used the draft pick they used on Jameson Williams on another defensive player.

We can?t score at will. Our offense is a product of playing bad teams early in the season.

Eagles are 4-0 and 10th ranked PPG defense (despite 35 by the Lions)
Vikings 3-1 beating 3-1 packers and losing to 4-0 eagles (Vikings 12th in defense)
Seattle 2-2 is weaker but we were missing 3 top wrs, top 3 guards and top rb (Seattles defense does suck (31st) though but again Lions were missing like every real weapon but Hock)
Washington is 29th in PPG defense and we won

Bills, Cowboys, Packers twice, Giants, Jags have top 10 defenses right now we will face too.
Bears 11th will face twice, Vikings 12th again
Carolina 14th
Miami 16th
Patriots are 22nd PPG defense

We will be tested for sure on offense but have passed the tests on offense at least so far

In hindsight trading up to get Davis instead of Williams should have been the play. We may be 2-1 or 3-1 If we had drafted Davis even though he doesn?t have many tackles the Lions need some bigger linemen on defense ? Plus we have to stop drafting guys that are hurt.

There will be star WR in the 2nd round or later, always are. Always best to go defense.

I hate that argument. You can say the same thing about every position. We have a rookie starting LB who was drafted in round 6. Every team in the NFL has day 3 or non drafted players starting somewhere.

I?m excited to see St Brown and a healthy Williams on the field together.

Chark is a fa next year. Its good we have Jameson. Rookie deal cheap for 3 more seasons too

Barnes didnt work out. Anzalone proved again having a vet doesnt matter if they stink. Need a mike lb and no reason not take one with first 3 picks in 2023 draft
