Yes. But imo the ones that follow everything is the minority nowadays. I think it was Obama's first election when over 50% voted for him. Which goes against things like pro-life.

Catholics voted with the US popular vote for like 40 years, flipping from Dem to Rep and back with the nation. We're not distinctively anything in terms of politics. Are we supposed to support caring for the poor or caring for the most vulnerable among us (that's the language used to frame religious abortion debates if anyone doesn't recognize it)?

I found this resource that presents the data pretty clearly. I'm curious to see how accurate it turns out to be. This is the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.

As of today, 4-1-20, for the US...

• Looks like Deaths-Per-Day are expected to peak on April 16, 2020 at 2,607/day.

• The last increase in Total Deaths is July 15, 2020, with 93,765 total deaths.

...

Since I posted this, these numbers have changed a bit:

• Deaths-Per-Day are expected to peak on April 16, 2020 at 3,130/day
• Total deaths have gone down, and the last increase is projected on June 22, 2020, at 81,766 total deaths

I suppose this represents an expectation things will peak higher, but not last as long (?). That would be a good thing.

I think it means that our social distancing / stay at home orders aren't working as well as hoped which creates a higher peak but it will end sooner. The goal of "flattening the curve" would extend it but in theory there would be fewer deaths.

The orders aren't working because they leave huge loopholes for businesses to operate. and a lot of people aren't following them anyway.

I had to go to walgreens last Friday, and was surprised that - even though we've been under a stay-at-home order since 3/24 - nearly every business in the huge stripmalls around the walgreens were open.

this included every single restaurant (take out only, presumably, I hope..), a pet store, liquor store, pool supply store, etc.

the only stores I saw closed were massage places & spas
