2021 Free Agency and Cap Cuts

Doesnt matter. Draft better..sign smarter fa deals..the money isnt the reason we lose. Lions spent a ton of money infa and had plenty of draft picks..pick better players or coach/scheme.

Only 14th in cap hit this year too in 2020

14th for a 5 win team is too much.

14th for great qb play. Hofer incoming

New cap assumption in 180 million. So 8.5 million in space with 50 under contract counting the new future deals.

Cuts:
Desmond Trufant for 6.5 in space added after dead
Cut Chase Daniel for 2.3 million
Cut Christian Jones for 2.6 million
Cut Joe Dahl 2.9 million
Cut/trade Nick Williams for 4.7 million
Cut/trade Shelton for 4 million
Cut/trade Coleman for 5 million

Frees 28 million in space 8.5+28=36.5 million. Need around 5 for the draft. So 31.5 million to work with plus a 2-3 million buffer for top 53 and IR/PS. So 29.5 million in space

Work pay cut for Jessie James of 2 million. And any of the cuts try to work whatever the cap savings into pay cuts too. Would Shelton, Williams or Coleman or Trufant agree to pay cuts. Who knows. Probably not so. Jamie Collins another but I doubt he takes a pay cut.

31.5 million to work with. 31 million to get to top 51 with one more vet min deal.

Resign:
Muhlbach for vet min plus the vet min reduction use
Resign Marvin Jones for 2 year 18 million (7 million and 11 million cap hits)
Sanu 1 year 1 million
Reeves Mabin and Killebrew Vet min for Special teams

WR core includes Marvin Jones, Geronimo Allison, Cephus with Hock and Swift.

Down to 23 million.
10.5 per for Brandon Scherff (5 years 52.5). 7, 9, 10, 12, 14.5

Down to 16 in space and Oline is Decker, Jackson, Ragnow, Scherff, Crosby/Vaitai

DT Dalvin Tomlinson from Giants 9.5 per. 5 years 48 (cap hits 4, 9, 10, 12, 13)
DT Larry Ogunjobi from Browns 9 per 5 years 45 million (cap hits 3, 8, 10, 12, 12)
Resign Romeo Okwara 3 year 21 million (3 million, 7 million, 9 million)

Down to 6 million in space. Sign vet CB for 1-2 million in space 1 year deal (Dennard type etc)
Prater 2 years 6 million. cap hits 2 and 4 million

Down to 4 million in usable space (already counts buffer and draft)

Pre draft
Stafford, Blough, X
Swift, Kerryon, X (power back needed), Bowden FB
Hock, Jessie James, Hunter Bryant
X, Marvin Jones, Cephus, Mohammed Sanu, Geronimo Allison
Decker (Crosby), Jackson (Stenberg), Ragnow (Bodine), Scherf (Vaitai), Crosby/Vaitai
Prater, Fox and Muhlbach

Defense
Flowers, Ogunjobi, Dalvin Tomlinson, Okwara (backups Hand, Penisini and Julian Okwara, Austin Bryant, Kevin Strong, John Atkins)

Collins, Tavai, X, X (JRM, Killebrew, Dion-Hamilton STers)

Okudah, AO, Vet CB (Dennard), X, X, Mike Ford

Walker, X, X, Harris, CJ Moore

WR, Linebacker, Safety, CB focus in the draft

Devonta Smith WR Pick 7
Cameron McGrone LB Pick 41
Paris Ford S Pick 72
Jermar Jefferson RB Pick 102
Tony Fields LB Pick 136

LB now Collins, McGrone, Tavai, Fields, J Okwara
Safety Walker, Ford, Harris, vet min safety, CJ Moore (ST)
RB Swift, KJ, Jefferson
WR Devonta Smith, Marvin Jones, Cephus, Sanu ,Allison

Winston only got 1 million last year. Give him 2 mil to backup Stafford

Need more space. Convert Stafford salary to bonus. Spread over 8 million over next year and dummy 3rd year. Around 5.2 million in space for 2020. 7.2 carryover for 2021.

still a shitty team

still a shitty team

Good Oline, good QB, good weapons, run game much improved with Scherff, more Swift and Jefferson. Offense can be lethal especially if Smith hit the ground running

Defense improved but agree would still be lacking.
Dline would be good with some depth. DT much improved
LB improved but thin relying on Collins and the rookies. And still too much Tavai. But maybe coaches fix him
Safety improved but thin. Depend what Ford could do. Would need a nice gem vet safety add
CB relying on Okudah and AO big time. Again hit on the cheap vets with right fit.
Better backup QB by far then with Winston

And then of course the big coaching changes too which should be helpful for the team

If you are going to sign Winston for $2M, sign him to be the starter and trade Matt.

PFF's predictions on 3 of the FA you want (they only did the top 50)

Prediction: Scherff for four-years, $60M ($15M APY): $37.5M total guaranteed, $25M fully guaranteed at signing.

Prediction: Winston for one-year, $5 million.

Prediction: Tomlinson for four years, $52.5 million ($13.125M APY): $26.5 million total guaranteed, $16.5 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Rivers retiring

https://horseshoeheroes.com/2021/01/19/colts-matthew-stafford-trade-rumors-proposal/

Trade idea article

...acquiring Stafford will probably end up costing Indy around three draft picks ? let?s say one first-rounder, next year?s second, and a third

I?m good with that

And if Brees retires more possible destinations for Matt. But I put trading Matt at about 10% at tops.

Franchise Golladay.

Stafford and Golladay to Indy for 1st, 2nd, 4th this year and 2nd next year

Maybe he's propping him up for the market.

The thing is people in football think he is great. I don't get it so he has been saddled with a shitty defense so what. 12 years needs to be a enough.

That is not a bad deal at all. I would do that. Instead of the 4th would they throw in Paris Campbell?? Take a QB at 7. Draft DEFENSE.
