2022 Tigers MLB Draft Jace Jung Top Pick and Draft 3rd in the 2023 Lottery Draft

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

The annual MLB draft starts Sunday night and goes for 3 days. The draft now is permanently reduced to 20 rounds, not 40.

The Detroit Tigers have traditionally almost always selected pitchers in the early rounds. This has resulted in a fairly decent depth of pitching prospects. But as we?ve seen, the injury bug plays a factor in their development.

Some of the thought behind this strategy is that when it is time, the team can trade a young pitcher for a developed positional player.

Last year, the Tigers went against the rest of MLB and selected Jackson Jobe instead of the more highly-touted shortstop Marcelo Mayer. Mayer has been doing very well so far in his development.

So what should the Tigers do for this year?s draft? Should they focus on continuing to select pitchers or should they focus more on selecting the best-ranked player available?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.
