Game 6: Bengals @ Lions Thread

The entire off season was mis-managed by the front office. They knew it was a COMPLETE re-build. Brockers, Williams, & Perriman weren't necessary signings. Okwara probably wasn't either. Could have re-worked other contracts to make room for rookies. Could have waited to cut Collins.

While Brockers, Williams and Perriman weren't necessary for the rebuild to take place....they were necessary in other respects.

1. Short term deals. Lions can get out of any of those contracts (already did with Perriman) after 1 or 2 years with little to no penalty. And Collins was cut because he gave up. He wasn't even trying. That was easy to see. If he'd have come in this year and put in max effort he'd still be a Lion.

2. You have to show the fan base you're at least making an effort. They weren't high level free agents, but you can't fill every hole with one draft and you need to sell tickets....so adding veterans helps with both of those.

Spoiler alert......they will likely do the same this off season. Bring in has beens or prior years draft busts on short deals to fill the STILL open holes in the roster. Maybe they find lightning in a bottle with one....who knows. I bet the leadership of this team already knows 2022 likely won't be much better than 2021 and the roster overhaul will be as great next year as it was this year. Very likely that Flowers is gone. So is Vaitai. Possibly Okudah....though it doesn't save much ($3.2M after 6/1) with a dead cap of $5.2 in both '22 & '23.

I think they're doing this the right way.....it's a Grand Canyon sized rock they've got to dig this franchise out from under.

Took 3 seasons to go from Millen to playoffs

Can the Lions pull that off but also have consistent playoff lasting power

Brockers was supposed to be a teacher and better and in the plans for 2022/2023 maybe

Okwara definitely in long term plans. Terrible injury luck

Williams one year deal was supposed to give Goff something to work with. But Tartt took a cheap shot on him
