Matthew Stafford comes in as No. 9 QB in NFL

30th in rushing yards per game just does not cut it in the NFL and it hurts whoever is at QB.

Steelers are last in rushing yards, Bucs are 29th. Yards are not a valid comparison anyway. Lions are near bottom of the NFL in attempts. So are Bucs and Steelers. Bills and Lions have virtually the same YPC. Steelers are last in YPC.

It matters. Big Ben has a worse QB rating BTW. Brady has a shit load of weapons and more protection. Stafford had no run, below average protection, Lions 2nd in league in drops and missed KG for 11 games. Recipe for disaster but Stafford still did well even while dealing with THREE injuries to himself.

Ben was 6th best protected QB. Brady 7th. Protection matters big time. Rodgers 3rd most protected. Brees 2nd. Tua was the most protected QB in the league BTW.

Bucs and Steelers had much better defense. Short fields make it easier for those QBs.

Take everything into account. Not just run game.

Stafford had nothing but Marvin/Hock and Swift. No other help.

If Matt goes to another team will you go to another team? Please say yes.

The lions will suck for atleast another 2 years...no matter what. Stafford has already proven he needs all facets to be good around him in order to be successful...thats not happening here anytime soon.

IMO they should atleast make those next 2 years exciting with some fresh faces and young talent. Trade him and get 2 picks should be option A. I have a feeling its not....if you have Spielman in the owners ear im assuming option A is build around Stafford. Which is fine...but dont fucking continue to pick TEs and RBs in early rounds and then say you dont have a defense so Stafford cant be successful.

LOL he doesn't need all facets to be good. He needs like 2 facets to be average instead of all facets sucking ass like worst in league. Run game and defense can't be this bad for any QB. Stafford doing well despite all that shows how good he is.

We'll see what the new GM decides. He is for sure worth keeping for 2 years and then a 3 year extension. or they just blow it all up

And good news is we don't need to take TE/RB now. They are set. So can focus on the defense and one Oline. But WR is on the table pending what happens in free agency first.

at times you seem to understand how bad the Lions really are.

blown the fuck out by Hou and Car (with some CFL garbage QB making his first start)....and yet he still doesnt get it. His homerism is truly amazing.

Talent didn't execute. Injures a factor. KG, Trufant, Okudah and Flowers for sure among others. Poor coaching a huge factor. Could see the plan as the Patriots guys added were good (not perfect) for most part in Flowers, Harmon and Collins. But their LB talent they wanted are terrible and the DTs don't collapse the pocket enough or at all. Other teams have talent too but Lions made the mistakes onto of lack of speed. The wide open of every deep in or lack of LB dropping was appaling.

But 9 new starters on defense needed. Some talent, some scheme change, some cap/injury reasons (Trufant, Williams, Shelton and Coleman cuts for big time savings)

Players who performed in the past didn't this year (Trufant, Coleman, Shelton, Williams, Harmon turnover wise but solid player who struggled at end, Tracy Walker after 2018/2019). Hell Tavai got worse from his rookie year average play. Ragland and Jones slow but werent' supposed to play as much in coverage but had too. J Okwara and Bryant injuries. Davis has the tools but for some reason can't perform. LB were a mess other than Collins. Way too much Kearse and Harris with Walker regressing.

The mess can be fixed on defense.

And now offense has a WR FA problem and one Oline. KG and Marvin are good and gave me my expectations. Marvin performed, KG got hurt, Hock and Swift performed, Stafford performed as best he could with the mess. He was pretty good. 26 TDS in really 15 games with no run game (so Stafford does it almost all) or little short fields for easier TDs. And then 2 Marvin ones taking away by refs, Swift drop. You are looking at 30 TDs with only 10 ints.

lol

just need 9 new starters on D, possibly 2 new starting WRs, a few OL, depth on D

Probably a 10-12 win floor next year, right LKP?

If they make all those changes yes. They did all of that this past season made that many changes.

Trufant, Okudah, Williams, Shelton, Ragland, Harmon, Collins. 7 defensive starters. 8 if you consider Kearse with Walker benching. Trade for Griffen too

Resigned Amendola, Peterson/Swift, Vaitai, Jackson. Gave a decent sized contract to Chase Daniel

And then you got J Okwara and Stenberg who were Round 3 and 4 that didn't even play much

You can make that many changes in one offseason. Got to make sure they are good players and got to have some good health (or at least not be some of your best players getting hurt for double digit games Flowers/KG)

So 10-12 win floor can happen. The schedule next year is looking much tougher though. AFC North, NFC West and always strong NFC North.

they changed that many players and still at the bottom of the division. Probably the same result next year.

Maybe. Maybe not the same result. Different GM and head coach and scheme. And different health we'll see. I've seen 7-9 Lion team turn to 11-5.

If top WR and top DE and two CBS miss that much time again, will be tough. Let's see who gets hurt in the 2021 version and if the new coaches/depth make a difference.

And we'll see if they blow it completely up by trading Stafford. Then it's a complete unknown with a rookie or one year vet stop gap.

They better prioritize speed without losing power/tackling ability on defense and separation ability for WR.

Ya, NFC West and AFC North...we're winning 3 games max next year. And thats IF we have Stafford.

Eagles and at Falcons are the other games. And if they go to 17th game will be Broncos

Can we split Packers and Vikings yes. Can we sweep or at least split Bears. Yes. So 3-4 wins needed in division. Let's say 3

Eagles huge cap issues. 4 wins
at Falcons. Win. 5 wins
Broncos. Win

We'll see on the remaining. AFC North and NFC West are good right now at least. We'll see what changes happen. We already beat the Cardinals this year. 49ers if healthy, Seattle tough. Rams who knows they have some issues but good defense. Can we go 2-2 against those two divisions. Bengals especially if Burrows still out. Big Ben back and they have some free agents? Browns up and down team, Ravens good.

If we do there is your 10 wins. But you gotta keep Stafford to do that. A rookie isn't winning 10.

they will be lucky to split with Bears and MN. Probably lose both to GB unless it's the last game of the year and GB is sitting all of their starters.

2-3 wins in the division

49ers 30% chance to win
Seattle 20%
AZ 40%
Cle 30%
Pitt 20%
Balt 10%
ATL 50%
Eagles 50%

1/2 of those games will be at home which increases the odds. I say they win 3-4 of the out of division games which is being generous.

5-7 wins

So March 21st for 10m bonus. Trade or even release saves 14 million, so draft a guy and get Andy Dalton I'd be okay with that. And we'd still have $$ left over.

looking at those...Justin Coleman and Trufant were terrible signings. Neither contributed much at all and cost the team $32.4M in guaranteed salary. Maybe Coleman stays on next year?

Trufant was basically hurt all year. Lions won some the games he played.

Coleman is underperforming on his contract. Played great first part of 2019 then struggled then good at end of 2019. 2020 hurt Week 1 and very average rest of season (but that could be due to other defensive problems or dealing with injury remnants or scheme, who knows)

Trufant will be cut for sure. Coleman is a maybe. You can roll with Okudah, Coleman, AO again but I think you should sign another good vet at a decent price and then AO becomes the 4th CB which is good depth then.

There are some really really good safety FAs this year. Plus Walker final cheap year of his contract. Need 2018/2019 Walker not the 2020 version
