Michigan Hockey 3/15/20

Hockey standings after tonight

29 pts Psu 9-7-2 (17-9-2).
28 pts MSU 9-6-1 (13-12-1).
29 pts Osu 9-7-1 (16-9-3).
25 pts minn 6-5-4 (11-10-4).
28 pts ND 7-7-4 (12-11-5).
21 pts Um 6-8-2 (11-12-3).
17 pts wisc 5-11-1 (10-14-1).

Trail Osu 2-0 in the first tonight.
Still 2-0 Osu midway in the 2nd.

Mich Goal !
2-1 osu 12 min mark of the second period.
2-1 osu end of the second.

We could really use a comeback to get to .500 in the big ten. Lose this and we will need a sweep next weekend.

Lost 4-1 spilt weekend series. Michigan is 6-8-2 in conference. 11-12-3 overall . Michigan 5 game winning streak is snapped. Game was closer then scored Indicated. We held Osu to 21 shots. Compared to 36 for um.

Something Happened where 2 of our top guys were kicked out. Not sure what happened. Game was real chippy. Michigan had to kill 2 five minute penalties.

Pariwise update. Sure would be nice to get in the ncaa again Mel. The dang frozen four is in Detroit. Top 16 make the ncaa I am pretty sure unless there is some big upsets in conference tournaments in a few weeks.

Yes for some reason that seems to be Mel?s team?s M.O. They start real slow then seem to pick it up after Christmas. The team did have some bad luck in the first series against Osu in Columbus losing both by 1 goal. Then in the next four against Minnesota and MSU they lost a game in it and lost three real close games. Msu did smoke them 3-0 in one game. It was a frustrating 0-5-1 strech.

Heck Now points wise they are only 6 behind the first place team Psu now. The race is real tight now. Msu has only allowed 37 goals in big ten play. Um is second at 42 goals allowed. Overall all though Michigan is leading 62 to 65 goals allowed. Least Friday and Saturday our offense carried the day albeit against the worst team in the Big Ten Wisconsin. The team is averaging about 3.9 goals a game the last ten games. Two with MSU up next. At East Lansing next Friday then in Detroit on Saturday.

That being said I know Mel had that run to the Final Four in his first season his overall record is a pedestrian 48-43-13 (.524) right now at Michigan. He was 166-135-42 at Michigan Tech good for (.545). Mel needs to step up his game a tad.
 
Heck Michigan has a shot at a top three finish now. Last 6 games before big ten tournament. Pretty sure Minnesota is on a winning streak also.

Msu @ Michigan tonight in Detroit on FSD. Pretty sure Michigan is the home team for this game. Winner will be in third place after tonight’s game in the big ten.
 
Lockwood scores 2 goals tonight as the Wolverines defended the Duel At The D. Trophy for the fourth year in a row. Winning 4-1 tonight. The game also Also counts as a big ten game and the wolverines sweep MSU this weekend and improves to 8-1-1 in the last ten games. Michigan moves into third place only 3 points off the two leaders Psu, and Minnesota. Michigan is now 15-12-3, and 10-8-2-1 in conference! Huge weekend sweep.


Pariwise rankings. Michigan still at #20, and on the outside of the ncaa bracket with 4 games plus the big ten tournament. At Minnesota The last weekend is going to be a huge series. Better not over look ND this weekend either.

So there are 2 different things on Wikipedia Michigan leads the Duel in the D series 17-11-5. It was started in 1991. Since 2016 MSU and Michigan have been playing for the Iron D trophy also in the series I think. Michigan leads 4-1 in the Trophy games. Msu wining the first one.m Michigan the next four. I think they are both the same thing.

Freaking clutch and grab ND comes into Ann Arbor and beats Michigan 2-1. Michigan probably has to sweep its last three games to make a at large bid. ND at home today at 4pm. Next weekend at Minnesota for 2 games.
 
Same as yesterday. 0-0 end of the second period. Nd 17 shots on goal . Michigan only 12 shots on goal. Um needs this one bad.
