When I posted this thread, I later noticed it was in duplicate, even though I kept adding the story links to this one.
I deleted the other thread that only had the two original links and gotime's question about the amount offered...sorry.

As has been stated, Dombrowski says he offered Max the most money ever to a Tiger only to have it rejected. Meaning yearly and total amount.
f'n boras or Mrs. Max are in play here with that refusal.

Tigers will be in the same situation with Miggy soon or by this time next year. Do you want them to re-sign him to an extension?

I would have preferred they would have traded Max last off season and get 2 MLB players in return and a top prospect.

As far as Miggy, don't sign him to an extension. I would actually shop him too but not trade him unless the price is right.

I thought so.
Tigers haven't been like the Rays or teams that trade before player hits FA. They don't have the farm system that has a ML ready player to step in for the players thet You want to let go. Can't help but think if they do what you suggest, they go back to mediocrity and people who wanted this are the first to bitch because they suck.

I hear what you are saying and agree to an extent. It is my opinion that they are heading to mediocrity now even with Miggy and Scherzer. They don't have the talent in the farm system to fill a team with some cheap talent to balance out some of the high payroll players. Let's say they do sign Scherzer and Miggy which appears to be their plan. They will have about $120M a year tied up in Miggy, JV, Max, Anibel and Kinsler. You aren't going to be able to field a contending team because the farm system is so bad that they won't be able to fill the voids cheaply. Bottom line...I think the Tigers are screwed!

Jason Stark is reporting Tigers offer to Max was at least an average of 24M per year

I heard that on Sportscenter as well...that it was just slightly under JV's 25.7 mill per year. If Max is turning down that kind of money then there's nothing we can do. They can't possibly offer more than that...nor should they. This will be his last year as a Tiger.

Fk 'em. Trade his ass..teams are willing to get a guy on his last year but I'm not sure someone would trade for him knowing he wants more than 24m a year..

Good, I'm glad we didnt sign him. I honestly have no faith in him being this good long term, he's always been too inconsistent in his career and his mechanics are violent and hard to repeat. I have a feeling we would have been regretting giving him that much money in a few years. Let someone else sign him.

I also was in favor of trading him this offseason, rather than trading Fister. Nothing we can do about that now though.

That is what is probably best for the long term success of the team but I REALLY doubt they will do it.

Too late to trade him now that we've traded Fister. We have noone else to step up in the rotation right now.

At this point, we just wait till the season ends and he rejects a qualifying offer so we at least get a pick for him.

And what do we do with that pick..no guarantee of a first either. And at this point I'm not concern about who will step up in the rotation, I'd trade him if possible. Granted I won't be heartbroken when he's gone, even if it's for a comp. pick.

24 million and he rejected it? Lol wow....

Any word on the length of the contract? I really find it hard to believe that he would be looking for more than Verlander....

So, let's say this season he has his career average year- 3.5 ERA with right around 190Ks...I find it hard to imagine the tigers would offer that same deal he just rejected at that point. I also find it hard to believe that Scherzer would be willing to take anything less than what was originally offered, which means him staying a Tiger is very slim.

To be honest the only way I see him staying is if he has a year slightly less impressive than last year, and the tigers suck it up and pay him the same contract that Verlander has...sucks to say that, but it's prob true. If he has a better/comparable year as last, he will get more than Verlander from some stupid ass team..

I do like Scherzer and admire his confidence in his abilities. He is gambling that he will have another great year. If he does he will probably get more per year and more years from the Yankees or Mets. If he has a worse year he will probably still get $20M a year from someone.

It's probably more Boras than Max. Either way if he gets paid 20+ for many years, turns 30 in July - it's way too much.

I'm glad he turned it down also, I'm guessing he doesn't want to stay in detroit longer term, team is likely on the decline now so why would he want to stay through likey future rebuilding endeavors..win win really no way he repeats last years success IMO, everybody wins here.

Now Boras is saying that it was the tigers who rejected max's offer and not the other way around.

who cares? as long as he doesnt sign.
