No, he wasn't.

Porcello himself said he had no idea where the rumors came from that he was, said himself he always worked in the lower 90's.

What probably happened was he threw a few pitches in the mid 90's and a scout said that he Porcello could touch mid 90's, and than word got around that he was somebody who threw that hard all the time.

Stuff like that happens all the time with scouting of HS players in all sports.
When a player is drafted straight out of HS, their velocity usually isn't capped.. You see what velocity a particular pitcher can touch, and you get an idea what their normal velocity on their fastball will be once they hit the majors and reach their full potential.. Rick hasn't reach his full potential and it's pretty obvious he was brought up too fast.. HS prospects are scouted differently from college players..

Wrong. No ones velocity is "capped." All pitchers, even major league pitchers "touch" a certain speed, but pitch at a slower speed. Much like JV pitches at around 93-96 but "touches" 98-101. Porcello pitches at 89-92 and touches 95

I need to give my neighbor(s) a Tigers schedule,
DNBR do not bother Ron during Tigers games,

Tigers 2 - 0.

Nice shot Young.

Offense has come alive this series, good to see.

touching on porcello's velocity...scouts made it sound as if Rick was regularly touching 95 on the gun in HS...granted that is HS and he could get by throwing smoke.

I'm sure someone developed Rick into a more finesse guy which would allow him to get more movement...I'm sure he can dial back and throw 95 but I'm guessing that would be with far less movement.

just my theory.

Colorado must be patting themselves on the back about now.

Are you kidding me? He's touched 97 before.. No one is saying his fastball is RPG status.. But he was certainly drafted to pitch in the 92-94 mph range..

when does the love affair with Young in the 3 hole fall apart.I liked the addition to the lineup, but what has he done to deserve it?

ok, now he has. lol

Damnit! I benched my man Delmon in my fantasy league! Love the big fly off Ubaldo though.

Any of you in Michigan getting a storm? Just knocked out my TV.

I'm not saying he's Verlander #2, but when a H.S pitcher is highly regarded, you don't expect them to get by on a 89-92 mph fastball.. People thought his potential would be reached around 92-94 mph..

Cabrera taking 3 and 0, and walks,

so that's what I missed last inning, Porcello threw behind acabrera,
anything precipitate that? or just a pitch that got away from him?
