Tired of talking about 2013 and before.....

Yes it matters if Stafford is great vs average. I apologize if I am misreading your intent here, but if the Lions wasted a #1 overall pick on an average QB, then yeah it matters big time. He was drafted to be a franchise changer. So far, we have received that average QB.

not to mention paying him so much. Hes the highest paid qb in the nfl this year.

Doubling down on him was the real gamble. The 5,000 yard season came at the perfect time. This team is ready made for a veteran quarterback to come in and dominate. Hopefully that guy is Stafford this season. He just needs more feel on his short throws.

but it's not the truth...it's your biased version of what happened. The truth is what happened...they went 7-9 and Stafford had too many turnovers that cost the Lions some key games.

It's not a biased opinion. It's a fact only 12 ints were his fault.

and we like to point out how you contradict yourself all the time. this post for instance you say he has bad weapons....yet mayhew is great and we have great depth on this team.

Its been pointed out at nauseum even if staffords weapons were below average (which is hard to imagine considering he had the best WR in the game, reggie bush, joique bell, Pettigrew, one of the best passing olines in football etc etc etc etc etc etc) then a #1 overall qb should do his job to make his guys perform at a high level. Our qb performed like an 8th grade qb throwing with his off hand.

Bad weapons due to injury is what I said. Burleson was fine. Burleson didn't cause any picks. Calvin was great too but he did cause a few ints. Causing a couple ints a year doesn't outweight the positives for each player. I never contradict myself.

And Stafford did do his job but he can't do everything. WRs have to catch. Off Calvins hands into a Bucs safety is not on Stafford. And on that play Stafford gave Calvin a great opportunity to make a game changing play. Neither are tipped balls. Two drops right causing a jump ball play call is not on Stafford either. There was pressure allowed by Waddle causing the errant throw against the Ravens. A throw that never should have happened in the first place if not for the ST/defense/miracle FG.

the problem with you people is you think everything is black and white and either/or

Calvin is a great player. But he did cause a few ints. This clearly doesn't mean Calvin or Stafford sucks.

You throw 29 TDS in a season you did your job.

Sorta new around here. Where do you rank Stafford among QBs? I consider myself neither lover nor hater of Stafford and I'd like to see how far off we are.

You throw 19 INTs in a season, you didn't do your job.

South, you shouldn't have asked him that. You are right with your assessment. He's right in the middle of NFL starters. I can name 10 off the top of my head that I would take before him (and I've already done that).

He only threw 12 that were his fault. Great job by Stafford. Low true int %

True int% Do they have that stuff in other sports?

Baseball, maybe they have a real strikeout percentage to count for faulty strike zones?

Basketball, actual three point percentage due to over tightened rims, or the ball swirling in and out?

How about hockey, maybe they can have an actual goal category due to posts hit?

It's just smart to watch the game tape instead of going blindly by stats.

How many passes were almost intercepted but the receiver prevented it or the defense dropped it?

Every QB has those too. You can't assume Stafford had more or less than others.

As long as they are not ints meaning the DB messed up, I'm still fine with the true int number of 12 and some close calls.

The point is I'm good with 12 actually happening that were his fault given his attempts. He gets a pat on the back for that coupled with 29 TDs and leading this offense on many long drives. Drops and lack of separation and lack of turnovers mean you should be thankful we have Stafford.

South, great point.

LKP, every QB has tipped balls, unlucky breaks, whatever. It's not exclusive to Matt Stafford.

Some have more than others. Some have less. Some QBs have more attempts. Some QBs have weapons that get separation and some don't. Some QBs have to put up with more injured weapons. Some don't (Chicago for instance, Detroit 2011 for instance). Some QBS live off 39 turnovers by the defense to make life easy (Russel Wilson, Stafford 2011).

Every QB is in a different situation. 12 true picks with some close calls is still good. Especially when you look at the first downs converted and TDs. I factor everything in when I tell you Stafford is good.

It seems to balance out. Stafford was not the team's biggest problem. As usual 3rd down defense was brutal and I saw the starting field position stat in here somewhere. "Opportunistic" is not how I would define the 2013 team's defense. I sure hope Levy looks like he did last season.

I hope Stafford takes that step. I'm more excited to see Reddick on his way to the Pro Bowl! Or take a few snaps during a game at least.

Lions had the best 3rd down sstop defense in the league since 2006. However, they did not force turnovers.

The Lions offense had the longest starting field position on scoring drives in the league.

No separation, weapon injuries 15 fumbles lost, drops and low turnovers all hurt Stafford's numbers in certain areas plus 6 bad rushing days, 2 bad pass pro days. Stafford still produced in moving the ball and scoring as best he could in that scenario.
