2019 Offseason (General)

Devils get Gusev.

Vegas gets 2020 3rd, 2021 2nd.

Gusev than signs 2 years 9m with the NJD.

Seems odd to give a 27 year old 9m who hasn't even played in the NHL.

Short term deal, minimal risk.

Gusev is an all offence guy like Panarin.

Keep in mind Gusev dominated the KHL with 82 points last year (40 more than Datsyuk, yes I know he is slowing down with age).

If Gusev plays to what his potential is, this deal might be a massive steal.

Worst case he gets the Shipaschayev treatment and the contract is mutually terminated and just goes away.

Eriksson Ek signs two-year contract with Wild
Forward gets $1.49 million annually, had 14 points last season

Colin White signs six-year contract with Senators
Forward gets $4.75 million annually, had 41 points as rookie last season

Veleri Nichushkin signs one-year contract with Avalanche
Forward, No. 10 pick in 2013 NHL Draft, was bought out by Stars on June 30

Some pretty good players not signed yet. How does a 22 year old who scored 94 points last season still without a contract.

No arbitration rights.

RFA offersheet compensation is so high its not worth it.

Meaning franchises are free to strongarm their free agents.

I can't recall any RFA going past the December 1 deadline (Fyodorov rule).

Typically contracts will be signed around start of the season. Typically teams hold all the leverage when players don't have arbitration rights.

If an RFA does not sign by December 1, he is ineligible for the rest of the season.

Sheahan signs 1 year deal with Edmonton.

900k deal.

Very cheap shutdown center who can slide in as a net front presence on the PP. Very good signing by Holland.

Thornton to San Jose - 2 million, 1 year
Gardiner to Carolina - 4 million, 4 years

Zach Werenski signed 3 years extension worth 5 mil per season.

What happens when you be an RFA. He is worth 6-7+ on the open market, especially at his age.
