Fun stat of day

I don't think anyone is coming at you. But it was just an odd snap at people.

It's a message board, you could post something about how you don't like the Lions jersey font, and it will turn into a different discussion. There's no reason to get upset about a thread going elsewhere.

And I think you are going way too far about how people are being negative. It's not that we are bashing this team. All of us, myself included, have talked about how great it is they are 11-4. But there needs to be corrections if they want to go truly far. Because right now, it's a nice regular season record, that's all.

While it would be great if they could make the adjustments, it is more likely that won't happen based on the performances throughout the season. However, the entire NFL is seeing a down year for offenses. It is possible there will not be a 5000 yard QB in the league this year.

maybe not a 5000 yard passer but there could be twelve 4,000 yard passers including Ryan Tannehill.

yeah, that's true tom...and looking at the points and total yards for teams, this year is actually on par with prior years. sure feels like it has been a down year for Os though. perhaps that is due to neither Brady or Manning clawing at some record and therefore the MSM is not bombarding us with their constant hype? (relatively speaking, obviously they still hype them up)

11 win season is a great accomplishment. The defense is playing insane. Its compounded by the fact the offense hasn't played well, but what the offense has done well for the most part is time of possession.

This offseason is going to be interesting. Decisions to be made on defense...players, scheme, etc. How much do you really want to mess with something that has worked so well?

Id focus a lot of attention to the oline. Staffords down year has a lot to do with Lombardi and a lot to do with protection. Need upgrades at LG, C and RT.

On the defense I was hesitant how the safety tandem of Quin/Ihedigbo was going to work out....they might be the best tandem in the league this year. I think we need an upgrade at CB and DE. Fairley is replaceable as long as Suh comes back. If Suh leaves we need a complete overhaul at DT and maybe a switch to the 3-4 o focus on our lb talent.

If we need upgrades it won't be through the draft.

The Mayhew system -> Draft a position multiple times -> fail to get any production (90% chance this is through multiple injury leading to insanity) -> sign a high price FA at that same position

Next year we are getting either Julius Thomas or Jordan Cameron AND all jokes aside they still would cost less than what we are paying Ebron/Pettigrew.

or the Lions

Not anymore. They made it in 2011. They made it a few times with Barry. Wins in the playoffs or bust. Even Cinci is getting a hard time and they made it 4 years in a row. The difference, as an organization we suck and don't shoot for playoff wins. Even the fan base doesn't.

We are talking about having a successful season. Making the playoffs for the Lions is a successful season. Prior to this season they have made the playoffs once in the past 15 years and have not won a single game.

Jacksonville in the same time period...2 playoff appearances and 2 playoff victories.

Oakland in the same time period...3 playoff appearances and 4 playoff victories.

THE LIONS HAVE ONE PLAYOFF VICTORY IN THE PAST 56 YEARS. THEY ARE THE MOST PATHETIC NFL FRANCHISE OVER THE PAST 50 YEARS AND IT ISN'T EVEN CLOSE!

But they have made the playoffs recently. Getting to a playoffs and not winning is failure..that's why Shorts got an extension because the clueless people in charge overreact to getting to the post season.

Cinci, they might start booing if they lose again. Harbaugh won't be back at SF after have some good years..Philly reaches the NFC title game 4 years in a row, coach fired. Lions, playoffs - extension.

And the reason that they're pathetic is not lack of playoffs its lack of playoff win.

You are right about the Lions management overreacting to one playoff appearance. That was a dumb decision on many levels but to say that was an unsuccessful season is stupid. They hadn't made the playoffs in 20 years. If the Lions were smart (which they are not) they would have looked at that 2011 season and saw that they won their first 5 games but finished 5-7 (including the blowout in the playoffs). They should have waited to extend Swartz.

That's why '11 was a successful season because it was so long. But now that we got in, take the next step. If they somehow beat GB and win a division title then that changes.

If you win 11 or 12 games in a season it is a success for sure. It's just very unfortunate that 11 wins may make you a 6 seed in the nfc this year...and a road team for the first round...and an underdog.

That is exactly WHY I think it's a successful season.

The NFC was tough to crack this season. With the weak NFC South, 10-6 teams are going to go home. Making the playoffs in a season like this is an accomplishment considering the good teams that won't.
