GAME 70 - Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Guardians, Friday, June 12, 2026 7:10PM

Another bad loss for the Tigers terrible hitting. Frustrating we can't solve Cleveland pitching

I'm so tired of Harris roster construction. We just fold it seems against good pitching.

Poor skubal has to pitch a dang shutout practically .

You have to be able to play some small ball against good pitching. The tigers aren’t built that way, they live and die by the home run ball which they did hit two tonight, unfortunately nobody was on base for either one of them so we lost.

It’s a damn shame we’ve got the pitching to go far but the lack of enough good at bats from one day to the next keep us stuck in the mud

Greene might be the worst when you really need a good at bat from him he fails nearly every single time

Yup I so agree. Roster construction espically for Comerica Park is poor because you can't stay as hot as we were hitting homers. Hit freaking 2 with no one on damn base.

Quick first impression for Outman with diving catch, HR.
Waguespack also pressed into duty in Tigers debut after roster shakeup.

Flaherty (left leg) departs early as rotation-mates near return.

Bibee tames Tigers while Flaherty exits early.
A painful left leg caused Jack Flaherty to leave the game after the third inning.

Tigers lose game, Flaherty in loss to Guardians: 'We know where we're at'.
Given the size of the mountain the Tigers are tasked with climbing to get back into the playoff picture, any loss, but particularly a loss to a rival team in the division, can feel more calamitous than it is.
Manager AJ Hinch addressed that issue before the Tigers were beaten by the Cleveland Guardians, 3-2, in the first of a three-game weekend set at Progressive Field Friday night.
Detnews

Detroit Tigers fall prey to greatest foe in Cleveland: Tanner Bibee.
The Detroit Tigers have beaten the Cleveland Guardians more than it seems like these past couple seasons, including in the ALDS last fall. They just can’t beat Tanner Bibee.
Lately, the Tigers can’t even hit the Cleveland righty and didn’t again in the series opener at Progressive Field, losing 3-2 and falling to 29-41. Well, the new guy – James Outman – hit Bibee when he smacked a solo home run to keep the Tigers in it early. He also made a spectacular play in center to give Tigers righty Jack Flaherty a chance to get out of a jam in the second inning.
Freep

Tigers get help from newcomers, but still can’t beat Guardians.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Casey Mize will be a free agent at the end of this season. Currently, he has some of the best stats on the starting rotation – #1 in ERA and #2 in WHIP (but almost tied for #1 with Tarik Skubal).
He was the Tigers #1 draft pick and #1 overall in MLB back in 2018.
Mize has had 7 years with the Tigers but only 3 of them so far as full seasons. Injuries, especially to the hamstrings, have been a yearly event.
The Tigers will lose the majority of their starting rotation after this year. Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty, Justin Verlander and Mize will be gone in 2027. Only Framber Valdez and Keider Montero will be back. Technically, so will Reese Olson and Jackson Jobe but they’ve yet to be tested after having their arms surgically repaired.
The Tigers go through an average of 11-12 different starting pitchers per year.
Should they extend Mize beyond this year? He just turned 29 last month and is earning just over $6 mill. His agent is not Scott Boras.
Logically, he’d be looking for a 4-5 year contract.

Should the Tigers extend Casey Mize?

1. Yes, extend him.

2. No, it's time to move on.

If he continues to pitch really good until the trade deadline, I say trade him and get a good return.
