Game 6: Bengals @ Lions Thread

This franchise needs a 64 year do-over. This might be the earliest I've soured on a new regime.

So that's what its like to have a young rookie talent at wr. Good thing we have 2 dts not making any plays.

Honestly....having a rookie WR on the team this year would do NOTHING but waste a year that he'd be on a cheap contract.

Would it bring more wins? Unlikely. Would he be building rapport with his future QB? Clearly not. Learning the offense? Maybe. Lynn either sucks donkey balls or Goff is the single worst QB in the league. I think it's a bit of both.

McNeil played pretty well yesterday.....one of the very few who did.....and is getting better as the season progresses.

Sure, it would ne nice to have or Rondale Moore......but we have small WR's we can't get the ball to right now. Raymond was open multiple times yesterday downfield and didn't even get a target. Terrance Marshall? Sure.....he would be great....but I think we'll have better options this off season in FA and the draft.

After watching Goff through 6 games now, this is the absolute best year to have garbage receivers. I can?t confidently say this offense would be any better with good receivers, we?d just see more open guys that Goff never throws to.

Dude is legit scared to throw more than 2 yards down the field. Or goes temporary blind in the pocket somehow.

McVay absolutely shattered this guys confidence the last 2 years. And this situation is accelerating that confidence shatter. No WRs and now no Oline but some pressures on him too.

Agreed. He has become Joey Harrington. It's 3 steps and see which check down is open. Hockenson, Swift, Williams or a short throw in the flats to Raymond.

That is our ENTIRE passing offense.

The run game has suffered DIRECTLY because of this (and OLine injuries). There are 8 guys in the box nearly every down and we play offense from 3 yards behind the line to 7 yards over the line.....that's all teams have to cover......a 10 yard box.

I fully buy in to the perception that McVay destroyed Goff's confidence. The question is whether DC can recognize that and restore it.

Tough to do when the roster sucks as much as this one does. I'm not sure if calling him out after the game is the best way to restore it either. At this point, team needs to look ahead to the Rams. Maybe Goff has been thinking too much about that and got stressed a week early and now can settle down more and catch the Rams off guard. Still expect Rams to win, but Lions had previously been much more competitive, which is the best anyone should expect.

Rams are going to kill the Lions. The early line is Rams -15.5

Stafford will toss 7 TDs and I will cry for every one

Rams defense will bottle up the Lions offense easily if they stop the run

Really? How/why have you soured 6 games in?

Getting it out early. Those 2 back to back games where the defense played well and instead of allowing them to finish it they went prevent. That's not biting knee caps off. They're not even doing what they said they'd do. Losing is one thing but it's the way they're going about it. Don't say you're going to be aggressive and then not be aggressive.

Every job has a learning curve, even NFL coaches. Would it make a big difference to you if we were 1-5? I hate it too, don?t get me wrong, but this team was destined to be terrible the second they hired fatty Patricia four years ago.

It's not about the record. Bad is bad. Our former coaches did it too, winnable positions only to go prevent or go stupid, enter Gym Shorts. Prevent never works when up by a score or less. Especially with these LB's. Sorry but that's just the way I feel.

I agree 100%. Prevent defense sucks. It's the single worst defensive scheme out there. It was popular when teams didn't throw the ball a lot....quarterbacks didn't have the arms they do now, and you could bully WR all the way down the field.

It's as relevant in 2021 as the electoral college.....but somehow both are still in use.

If a team has a dominant front 4........MAYBE it could be useful in certain situations. We don't. We also don't have good cover corners, cover safeties or cover LB's. Bad combination for a prevent.

But I'm not sure a couple meaningless losses due to the coverages called in the 2 close games we've played, in year one that means absolutely nothing, is a good reason to give up on the regime.

That was a disappointing analogy, it's there so we still have a slight chance CA and NY don't just get to decide it all for the rest of the country. Just stay home then there won't be any point at all.

lol. You're right......popular vote shouldn't matter.

Interesting way of looking at it.

It?s the same way our founding fathers looked at it, the reason we have it in the first place to help guard against the tyranny of the majority, it?s not a democracy, it?s a republic, if we can keep it. I don?t want to get too political here though I?m very disliked over there, this is the bash lions board. What happened to that mega bash lions thread I started few years ago I can?t find it now
