Tigers and MLB 2019-2020 Free Agents Rule 5 Offseason Calendar Winter Meetings

Al Avila Discusses Tigers' Needs.
Tigers general manager Al Avila said this week that a ?bat? ? likely either an outfielder or a first baseman ? as well as a backup catcher are on his shopping list.
It doesn?t seem that the Tigers will be adding a shortstop from outside, though. Rather, it looks as if utilityman Niko Goodrum is the favorite to land the job. Avila?s of the belief that young shortstop Willi Castro and catcher Jake Rogers, who made their major league debuts in 2019, need more seasoning at the Triple-A level.

lol..."a bat"

They need about 8 "bats"

THE SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

The Saturday Survey offers another way for readers to weigh in on a relevant topic. So here is a poll to gauge the pulse of our baseball-lovin? peeps.

As always, we welcome your comments, so please vote and then submit your reasons ( 4 sentences max!) for how you voted in the usual comment box. Don?t forget to come back later and view the results!

At this week?s GM meetings, Al Avila stated that his top priority is signing a veteran catcher. When asked if he knew any, he said ?Yeah, I know one.?

I think you know where we are headed with this survey, so help us out and participate.

1. Should Al re-sign his own son, Alex, how would you feel about the move?

2. Good move, the Tigers need a veteran presence.

3. If he?s the best candidate at the right price, that?s fine.

4. Tigers need to bring up the young guys, not veterans.

5. I think it?s a questionable move.

6. Absolutely unsupportable. A joke.

7. Other.

8. Not sure.

Vote.

????? This was the opinion of Menkiewicz and it?s partially why he was fired!

Please fire Avila. Or sell the team to someone that keeps the team in Detroit. Or both.

The Tigers have selected the contracts of infielder Isaac Paredes; outfielders Daz Cameron and Derek Hill; and right-handers Beau Burrows, Kyle Funkhouser and Anthony Castro.
Each of Paredes, Cameron, Burrows, Funkhouser and Castro are ranked inside the organization?s Top 20 prospects at MLB.com, while Hill checks in at 28th.
Cameron, Hill, Burrows and Funkhouser were all top 50 picks in the MLB Draft at one point.

Jacoby Ellsbury released by the Yankees. He last played in 2017, meaning the NYY will wind up paying the final $68.5 million on his deal for zero at-bats.

good article.

here is my selection.

3B Jose Rojas

6?0? | 220 pounds | 26-years-old

Left-handed Hitter

Los Angeles Angels

Rojas will be 27 by the start of next season, and he?s the definition of a longshot as a 36-round pick, but he has done nothing but produce in pro ball. He hit .304 with 17 home runs in Double-A in 2018, and last year he took advantage of the beach ball in Triple-A to post a .293/.362/.577 line with 31 homers. He?s at least intriguing as a lefty who takes good at-bats and has played third base, second base, first base, and left field.

Was talking with a minor league guru on twitter earlier. He was saying, like Baseball America, that the Tigers had their eyes on Rojas. Another player is Esteury Ruiz.
