Tigers Sign Eduardo Rodriguez, Injured finger, now possible opt out or trade

I haven't seen anything, but not to say there isn't anything new.

Making all that money and at best he was a 3 or 4 with the red sox.

Now the whole world knows he was thinking with the little head instead of the one he combs his hair.

Things must be really bad for him if he still isn't playing. He's losing a lot of money while he's out.

The Eduardo Rodriguez situation grows curiouser and curiouser.
The Tigers? left-hander remains in radio silence despite attempts at contact from the team.

as far as I'm concerned, this is total bullshit at this point. He has had several weeks to get his shit together. Guys with normal jobs can't just up and leave for months at a time if they are having problems with the wife. At this point, I wouldn't be too upset if they were able to void his contract and send him on his way.

Eduardo Rodriguez situation .. it?s not costing money why void the deal .. only time provides answers he make come back.. he may be tradeable .. relax people we're a 60/65 win team with no GM.

AJ Hinch said Eduardo Rodriguez, who has been throwing at a facility near his home in Miami, will report to Lakeland on Sunday. He could be pitching in a Low-A game by the end of next week.

By mid August you get EROD, Brieske, Manning, and if he?s not dealt Skubal.. in your rotation.

Tigers LHP Eduardo Rodr?guez is scheduled to meet with the media before tonight's game at Comerica Park.

He is expected to be activated from the restricted list today and start on Sunday.

Over the winter, the Detroit Tigers signed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez to a 5-year $77 million contract. The intent was to make him the #1 starting pitcher in the rotation.

Until this week, Rodriguez had pitched in only 8 games. His last start was in mid-May and afterwards he went on the IL. Shortly thereafter, he took Restricted Leave (forfeiting pay and service time) and ghosted the team for over a month.

In his return, he addressed his teammates and the media but revealed very little outside of the clubhouse. We did learn that he sought professional help while he was away.

Eduardo will be with Detroit longer than most of the current roster. His contract expires after the 2026 season.

Many have criticized him for not getting in touch with the Tigers or returning any phone calls. This caused the Tigers to wonder about their future, how to
re-design the rotation and how all of this may impact their pitching prospects.

Yet others argue that personal lives can be complicated at times and that people should not judge those issues.

How do you feel? Has your opinion of Rodriguez changed? Is all forgiven or is there still some lingering doubt or resentment?

How do you feel about Eduardo Rodriguez now that he has returned to the team?

1. All is forgiven.

2. A few lingering feelings.

3. Still feeling unhappy with him.

PoBO Scott Harris certainly inherited a mess from his predecessor. Despite former GM Al Avila?s comments about the rebuild being over, and getting Chris Ilitch to spend $235 mill on the roster last year, the team regressed in almost every facet but pitching.

Harris? job is to right the ship and even he has said this will be a process. There are no quick fixes. It?s premature to say that the Tigers are undergoing another rebuild. It?s more likely that this year is focused on reassessment.

Given all of this, Harris is dramatically remaking the roster. No exciting moves but an effort to remake as much of the roster instead of focusing in on just a couple areas.

The Tigers cut 16 players and only 2 of them have found new homes in MLB. The rest are either unsigned or have received new minor league contracts. It is a telling statement about the low level of talent this organization had last year.

As far as trade chips, Detroit has few and they are all pitchers. So far, 2 relievers have left in exchange for multiple players and top prospects.

Which brings us to the only other logical trade piece.

Eduardo Rodriguez.

He started only 17 games last year and missed almost 2 months from an undisclosed family emergency while ghosting his team the entire time. He had the team?s best record as a starter at 5-5 with a 4.05 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.

E-Rod was signed to a 5-year contract for $77 mill. His salary for 2023 is now considered to be a very reasonable $14 mill that goes up to $18 mill/year in 2024.

Rodriguez has an opt-out after the 2023 season.

Should the Tigers hang onto him or should they take advantage of the inflated market for starting pitchers and try to trade him? Conceivably, they could get a multi-player haul in return.

Or do they need his experience and depth as a starter for a team that used 17 different SPs last year?

Should the Tigers trade Eduardo Rodriguez?

1. Yes

2. No

Selected blunders exist that I do not forgive. That's one of them.

so, blame the one guy that actually did his job?

7IP, 2H, 2BB, 1ER, 13K

You should put the blame on the guys on the team that didn't do their jobs. He left the game with a 5-1 lead. He didn't bail on his team, the bull pen let the team down.

Also, fuck Torii Hunter. He went 0-5 that day and he miss played the grand slam by Ortiz. If he takes the right path he might make the catch and he doesn't end up in the bull pen.
