THE PAST IMPACTS THE PRESENT.
Totally Tigers

The Tigers may have a new regime in charge but it doesn?t mean that discussion of the old one will end. Scott Harris and Co. will have their hands full of mopping up the mess created by Al Avila and his associates and trying to undo as much damage as possible.

This process will probably take more than a year. There?s that much to do.

It is also a period of reassessment involving not just the roster but the rest of the organization. Are the new people meeting the team?s stated goals? Have the people leftover from the previous management on board with the vision and have they stepped it up?

So why do we have to do this? Can?t we just move forward and focus on the future? Can?t we just forget about Al Avila, Dave Littlefield, David Chadd and all the others?

No, not if we want an accurate read on how much the new crew has to do. If fans don?t see enough movement forward in the beginning, they will wonder and complain about the lack of action by Harris and his new Front Office. But if fans understand just how much of the old has to be analyzed, corrected and redone before the organization can push forward , then they will comprehend what is going on behind the scenes and have the proper context.

Needless to say, there is a lot to do and way too much to identify for one blog. So today, let?s focus solely on Harris? to do list as it pertains to the roster. What does he have to remedy?

I?ve got my list of the top 10 priorities that Scott is likely addressing???

With the Jackson Jobe news..somewhere Al Avila must be wondering as his next direct deposit hits..I may have been the greatest baseball liar in history..but damn I think I sucked as a GM..that Marc Gorosh guy was right..let me check my bank balance again..nice..

Fuck you again you stupid dumb fuck bumbling cocksucker Al Avila for drafting a high school pitcher with a top 5 pick in the draft when the consensus best hitter Marcello Mayer was there to be taken.

As of Saturday April 8, Tigers outfielder Austin Meadows has been placed on the 10-day injured list with anxiety.

Akil Baddoo has been recalled from Triple-A Toledo.

Tampa found a perfect Patsy in Avila. They saw him coming like so many organizations prior saw him coming. The average fan saw that the shithook known as Al Avila was incompetent 5 years ago. Chis Illitch finally recognized it 5 years too late?& after he let him oversee another draft & trade deadline.
Avila had no business holding that job other than as a temp for the remainder of 2015. Jordan Z. signing alone was cause for firing after 2016.

What did the Rays know and when did they know it!
The Rays are too savvy not to know about this issue. This is part of their modus operandi.

More chapters about the Detroit Tigers failed rebuild are being completed.

The latest? Catcher Grayson Greiner who just announced his retirement at age 30. He hasn't played in the majors since 2022 (age 29).

The Tigers made him their #3 draft pick in 2014. He was supposed to be the heir apparent and made his debut in 2018. But he only played 18-58 games in his 4 seasons in Detroit and had a .201 BA.

How many catchers has Detroit gone through until Jake Rogers' return this year? Their last regular catcher was James McCann back in 2016 - 8 years ago. Since then, the Tigers have been unable to develop their own #1 catcher.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Ever since Al Avila was promoted to GM, the Tigers (along with their now former drafting personnel) have drafted starting pitching almost exclusively for 8 years. They believed that this was the fastest way back to contention.

Since then, none of the 7 starting pitchers drafted and/or developed remaining within the organization have been a permanent part of the rotation. There were many injuries and also surgeries that played a role in assembling a new starting rotation.

Currently, there are 2 pitchers recovering from surgery. Another pitcher with undetermined arm problems that has kept him on the IL. And 1 with a broken foot.

One pitcher has just returned from Tommy John surgery.

Currently, there are 2 pitchers on the starting rotation but their ascension was a result of other pitchers? injuries.

Here is the breakdown of each starting pitcher drafted/developed by the Tigers. The first date refers to when they were drafted. The second date marks their MLB debut.

Beau Brieske (2019 ? 2022) ? An arm injury and current unknown IL stint

Alex Faedo (2017 ? 2022) ? Current starting rotation

Matt Manning (2016 ? 2021) ? 60-day IL with broken foot

Casey Mize ( 2018 ? 2020) ? 60?day IL with Tommy John and back surgeries

Tarik Skubal (2018 ? 2020) ? 60-day IL with flexor tendon surgery

Spencer Turnbull (2014 ? 2018) ? Just returned from TJ surgery and sent to minors

Joey Wentz (2016 ? 2022) ? Current starting rotation

Out of these 7, how many do you believe will eventually become a regular member of the Tigers starting rotation?

How many of these 7 pitchers will become regular members of the starting rotation?

1. 5-7

2. 3-4

3. 1-2

4. None
