Tigers 2021-2022 Free Agents Trades Rule 5 Arbitration Moves

Andrew Chafin will wear number 37 with the Tigers, previously worn by pitchers Steve Sparks, Kenny Rogers, Max Scherzer and most recently Beau Burrows.

LHP Eduardo Rodr?guez will be the Tigers' Opening Day starter on April 8. A.J. Hinch said he informed Rodriguez *before* the lockout, so it was no surprise.
In five starts against the White Sox, Rodr?guez?s stat line over five starts:
30IP 23H, 12R 9BB, 34K with an ERA of 3.60 and WHIP of 1.06

So far, for the 2022 season, the Detroit Tigers added multiple new players to their roster:

Jonathan Schoop (2-yr. contract extension) $15 mill
Tucker Barnhart $7.75 mill
Eduardo Rodriquez $77 mill
Javier Baez $140 mill
Andrew Chafin $13 mill

For the 2022 season alone, the Tigers have added $55.75 mill more to their payroll.

GM Al Avila is still telling us that they want to add another starting pitcher.
The 3+ month lockout of players has had a lot to do with the delay in finding one. (Note: After this blog was published, it was announced that the Tigers signed Michael Pineda to a $5.5 mill/1 yr. contract.)

Unclear is whether Avila still wants to find another outfielder as he stated over the winter. There is a possibility that they believe Riley Greene will make the Opening Day roster and thus fill that opening.

Still needing to be added to the yearly payroll is the salary for that starting pitcher. Also, over 1 dozen players still need to have their salaries determined via arbitration.

How do you feel about what the Tigers have spent so far on the 5 new players listed above?
How do you feel about the salary that the Tigers have added for the 2022 season?

1. They added more than I thought they would.

2. It's about what I thought they would add.

3. They haven't added enough payroll.

Good teams play defense up the middle..
Barnhardt
Baez
Schoop/Paredes
Greene

is a massive upgrade..especially with Jakey Rogers hurt.
Ramos
Goodrum
W Castro
Jacoby

Those 4 starters from last year 3 MILB camp invites and Niko who got oaid 2M to be utility guy..shows you whata terrible GM does..and what a miracle worker Hinch was.

as legendary as Mike Illitch was for spending money..two moves where he refused to spend forever changed the trajectory of his team
1. Max Scherzer
2. Dave Dombrowski

The Scherzer mistake forever changed the trajectory and the refusal to pay Dombrowski lead to 6 yrs of dumb fuckery with the initials AA.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

In the effort to become increasingly competitive, the Detroit Tigers signed a number of new players since the end of the 2021 season.

They added:
2 starting pitchers
1 reliever
1 catcher
1 2Ber (contract extension)
1 shortstop

And if Riley Greene makes the roster this year, the Tigers will have completely revamped the entire up-the-middle defense.

Their current starting rotation consists of 3 young players and 2 veterans.

Obviously, the Tigers continue to have needs.

But which addition will push them forward to becoming competitive the most?

A new starting pitcher who will sit near the top of the rotation or a hitter with more offensive power?

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog only, you?ve got 6 sentences max to share your thoughts.
Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?

1. Which addition will make the Tigers the most competitive?

2. A near top of the rotation starting pitcher.

3. A hitter with solid offensive power.
