Tigers 2022 Off Season for FA signings, trades, tender, nontender, Rule 5, to 2023

A CHANGE IN STRATEGY.

There are only 2 people who have a more daunting task than Scott Harris? attempt to rebuild the Tigers.

The heads of ticket sales and marketing.

Their jobs will be the most challenging since the end of 2003 when the team lost 119 games.

What exactly do they have to sell?

Other than Riley Greene, there?s really nothing else.

There are no promising rookies coming up. The buzz surrounding Spencer Torkelson is all gone and replaced with skepticism.

Miguel Cabrera is a shadow of the man he used to be and he won?t even be playing that much. He broke records last year which held fan interest but there?s nothing other than his retirement this year.

Even Lou Whitaker?s jersey number retirement was last year.

What?s ironic is that the Tigers made a lot of significant changes since the end of last season. The problem is that none of them will sell tickets.

No one?s coming to Comerica to watch Scott Harris or Dr. Lund.

And they?re not going to be inspired by the changes to the ballpark dimensions either.

Or by seeing A. J. Hinch who is now already familiar to fans.

This is gonna be one tough sell.

Harris should have thought about that when he decided not to fill in some of the holes with free agents.

Back in the days of Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Barry Zito, Bengie Molina, Ray Durham, Rich Aurilia, Pedro Feliz, Nate Schierholz, et. al., the SF Giants initiated a "He's a Gamer" campaign to compensate for the mediocrity of the team as a whole. This was circa 2007 - ish, and the Giants' fans I knew through another chat board made merciless mockery of the idea. Maybe Harris, as a former Giant exec (but not a part of this campaign) can borrow from it. After all, the Tigers are at least going to compete, right?

Right?

Since taking over, Detroit Tigers Scott Harris has signed 2 pitchers and acquired 17 new players. He has invited 22 non-roster players to spring training - 10 pitchers and 12 positional players.

Let's keep this figures handy and see who makes the roster for Opening Day. Also, which of these players - and how many - end up in Detroit for some or all of the 2023 season.

Tigers have signed outfielder DJ Peters to a minor-league deal.
He came up in the Dodgers system and spent most of last year in Korea.

Isn't it interesting that so many Detroit Tiger fans are directing more of their anger towards an owner who isn't spending on the roster (but spending a lot on the infrastructure) this year instead of placing the majority of the blame on the former GM who blew the rebuild?

There's certainly enough blame to go around but this team started regressing again over the past year+ under Al Avila. A farm system that now once again ranks at #30 and is described as having no depth other than pitching. And fewer prospects showing up on top 100 lists.

Consider is that this team has taken 1-2 steps backwards and is not yet ready to invest in free agents until the new Front Office digs out of the mess created by the former GM. Will adding a couple new players actually make this team better when there are so many holes to fill?

Former Detroit Tiger Michael Fulmer finds a home with the Chicago Cubs just days before pitchers and catchers have to report.
Still unsigned are Andrew Chafin and Daniel Norris.

Rumor has it that there is another sporting event happening today and that it may take away from the discussion of baseball. God forbid.

But just in case some of you need your baseball fix, we?re here to help.

Today is your day to discuss anything baseball-related, even if it?s not directly involving the Tigers. For this day only, please limit your comments to 6 sentences or less.

The Tigers and right-handed reliever Matt Wisler have agreed to a minor-league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training. Details not finalized yet.

Wisler, 30, posted a 2.25 ERA with 14 walks and 35 strikeouts in 44 innings for the Rays last season.
