Locked On Detroit Tigers Podcast: Some Detroit Tigers news! Minor League Housing, Justin Verlander, and Bally Sports Detroit Booth. 44 minutes.

We have actual news to discuss! First we talk about the new Minor League housing rule and how important it is to baseball.
Then we take a look into the Bally Sports Detroit decision to bring back the broadcast booth for the 2022 season.
Lastly, we end on everyone's favorite former future Detroit Tiger Justin Verlander and what his qualifying offer means for the odds of his return to Detroit.

As for Torkelson, he looks great, adjusting well to changing speeds and showing a solid two-strike approach. He?s still way below average at third base ? that?s just wishful thinking at this point ? but the bat is ready...Law not covering new ground is he..

Tork is hitting the ball exceptionally well. But he also returned to play 3B (in 1 game so far out of 3) in which a scout said went poorly. It's still very early and potentially he was moved there to get his bat in the game.

Hinch said Tork's 3B experiment was over and that he would play 1B. Let's hope he's fast-tracked for 2022. The Tigers were MLB's only team not having a full-time 1Ber. Making the roster this spring will allow Schoop to play more 2B and the Tigers to have more pop in their lineup.

Late last week, Totally Tigers offered 2 different polls focused on the tv broadcast team. On this site, 46% of readers believed that the quality of broadcast was ?mostly bad.?
An additional 29% thought the games were ?unwatchable.? That?s 75% of Tiger fans who are profoundly unhappy watching this broadcast group.

On Twitter, a similar poll was done asking Tiger fans whether the broadcast team should be replaced. A whopping 85% want new faces ? and voices.

Likewise, it?s not just the fans who are unhappy. Professional media organizations have routinely ranked Tiger tv broadcasters dead last in the quality of product that is turned out.

Given the newly-signed contract between Bally Sports Detroit and the Detroit Tigers, one can hope that BSD is now turning their attention to an analysis of what to do about potentially making changes to the tv crew. While changes are mostly under their auspices, the Tigers also have a say in who is selected.

So now it?s time to ask you, the fans who watch these games, what your preferences are when it comes to the play-by-play, color and/or pitching analysis broadcasters. Who do you want BSD to hire?

What kind of broadcasters should BSD hire?

1. Professionally-trained w/no Tiger ties.

2. Professionally-trained play by play w/former Tiger.

3. All w/ties to Tigers, including former players.

Remember when Detroit Tigers GM Al Avila said he couldn't find any takers for Nick Castellanos because "he's not drawing any interest"? Well, Nick will probably opt out of his contract and it's believed he'll have multiple suitors offering $100+ mill multi-year deals.

The Tigers ended up trading Nick to the Cubs for 2 prospects and also paying the Cubs part of his salary.

Hope he is wrong.

Rumors in Motown are The Tigers are after Correa, Verlander, and C Tyler Barnhart. Spending big to bolster the offense and pitching. Also bringing up their two prized prospects Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson.

DEEPER DISCUSSIONS.
Totally Tigers

Within the next couple of weeks, the Detroit Tigers will be heading into the Hot Stove season where they will start filling in the holes in the roster. Planning has already started, likely candidates have been identified and priorities have been established.

But the Tigers have to wrestle with the logistics that Comerica Park has created. With the evolution of the game, there are conflicts the team needs to sort out.

If you didn?t read it a couple days ago (https://totallytigers.wordpress.com/2021/10/20/j-d-martinez-was-right/),
the newest strategies in how to play the game have taken over.
Stats overwhelmingly show that hitting ground balls is a disadvantage while the ability to launch balls into the air with as much force as possible are the keys to winning.

These launch angle and exit velocity stats create much more run production and the teams that do it best were all the teams that snagged spots in this year?s playoffs.

Where the conflict is created is within the confines of Comerica Park itself.
It is a ballpark that is built for speed and base hits. Not home runs.

Today?s blog addresses this dilemma and allows readers to share their thoughts in more detail. And hopefully, to actively engage with others by responding to their posts and creating back-and-forth discussion threads. The more the merrier!

For this one blog, you?ve got 10 sentences max to share your thoughts. Of course, you can respond to as many other readers as you want.

TT will supply the ammunition. One thought-provoking question. Several options provided. One hard choice to be selected. One vote.

Ready?

Given the undisputed evidence that hard-hit balls launched into the air create greater run production and win more games, what kind of players should the Tigers be signing to their roster given that half their games are played in the vast region known as Comerica? Which type of player would you prioritize?

Which type of player should the Tigers prioritize for their roster?

1. Extra-base hitters w/speed.

2. Power hitters w/high exit velocities/launch angles.
